Obituary for Frank Eugene Coverstone

Frank Eugene Coverstone, 95, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, February 9. Frank was born on May 15, 1924, to the late William and Ruth Walters Coverstone in Terre Haute and preceded in death by his brothers, Harry, William, and Donald. On October 15, 1949, Frank married his beloved Roselyn Dede, in a double wedding with Maryanna Dede and Leo Swinford (deceased) at their life-long parish, St. Benedict Catholic Church. A testament to their love, Frank and Roselyn celebrated 70 years of marriage.
Frank is survived and cherished by his five children: Trudy Butwin (Tony), Tina Elliott (Earl), Tim (Jane), Port St. Lucie, FL, Tom (Terri), and Terri Potter (Corey). He was adored by his fourteen grandchildren: Trisha Wright, Tessa Butwin (Baltimore, MD), Todd Butwin, Megan (Seth) Brown, (Plainfield, IN), Emily Moore (Noblesville, IN), Mark (Brooke) Elliott, Drew (Whitney) Coverstone and Ryan Coverstone (Port St. Lucie, FL), Caitlin Coverstone and Thomas Coverstone, Sarah Potter, Anna (Douglas) Collett, Zach Potter (West Point, NY), and Caroline Potter. His great-grandchildren brought him tremendous joy: Luke and Claire Wright, Elliott and Isaac Brown, Maggie and Jacob Moore, and Carson Coverstone.
During World War II, Frank served in the U. S. Army, fighting in both theaters--Europe (France, Luxemburg, Belgium, Germany) and the South Pacific as a demolition engineer. After becoming injured while serving in the South Pacific and later suffering from malaria, he returned to his hometown as a disabled veteran. Prior to the war, Frank graduated from State High School and post-war, earned his degree from Brown Business College. In 1949, he began working at the United States Post Office as a postal clerk and went on to serve as Foreman of Mails, Tour Superintendent of Mails, and Postmaster in West Terre Haute and Brazil, IN, before retiring after 40 years.
Frank’s life was one of faith and service to others. As a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, he served as the volunteer/bookkeeper for 40 years, a member of the St. Benedict Men’s Club (Past President), and as a Eucharistic Minister, Greeter, and Offertory Gift Bearer. His service extended to the community as a member of the Schulte High School Board, Men of Carmel, and devoted lifetime honorary member of the Knights of Columbus 4377, Brazil. Reflective of his service to Country, Frank was a 60-year member of the Veteran Foreign War and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). In addition, Frank was a life member of the Wayne Newton Post 346, American Postal Clerks Union (Past President), member of the National Association of Postmasters (NAPS), National Active and Retired Federal Employee Association (NARFE), and National Association of Postal Supervisors (Past President). Frank served as Past President and member of the Noon Toastmasters and past member of the B.P.O.E. (Elks). Frank enjoyed his time on the links with the Senior Golf League, Rea Park Senior Men’s Golf League, his children, and grandchildren.
Frank lived a life for others. His blue eyes and warm smile lit up the lives of so many. Frank leaves a proud legacy of faith, family, and service.
The Coverstone family would like to express their overwhelming gratitude to Dr. Ravi Koduru and Dr. Robert Oehler, Union Hospital's Emergency Room, 2nd floor staff , and Wound Healing Center, and Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care for their loving care of Frank.
