Obituary for Dr. Jerrold A. Baker

Dr. Jerrold A. Baker, 90, of Terre Haute passed away Sunday evening, January 5, 2020. He was a retired Dentist having practiced in Seelyville for 38 years. Jerrold was born August 17, 1929 in Terre Haute, Indiana to James Baker and Josephine Didier Baker.

Jerrold was married to Jeroldine Full in Sacred Heart Church on July 5, 1954. They shared 59 wonderful years together until her death in 2013.

Survivors include two daughters, Ellen Burdick (Jim) and Leslie Burdick (Joe) all of Terre Haute; a son, Matt Baker of Terre Haute; and seven grandchildren, Katie Pettit (Chris), Mark Burdick (Stephanie), Laura Burdick, Bryan Burdick (Sabrina), Kyle Burdick (Kailee), Ryan Baker (Saraha) and Abbe Baker. Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren, Hannah Pettit, Bailey Truxal, Sam Truxal, Keegan Pettit, Riley Burdick, Spencer Burdick, Oliver Burdick and Finlee Burdick; a nephew, Jay Baker; and a niece, Laura Nikiel. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Margaret Baker; a brother, James Baker; a sister, Helen; a niece, Kim Baker; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Juanita Gibbons.

Jerrold was a 1947 graduate of Garfield High School, received his bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University and his D.D.S. degree from Indiana University School of Dentistry. He served with the United States Army for 2 years during the years between the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Jerrold was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Elks Lodge #86, Knights of Columbus Saint Mother Theodore Guerin Council #541, Sycamore Country Club and the Indiana Dental Association. Jerrold loved sports and was quite an athlete having played quarterback for the football team and also played basketball, baseball, ran track and was on the golf team at Garfield, and was on the golf team at ISU. Golfing was a true passion of his, and in 2003 he was inducted into the Terre Haute Golf Association Hall of Fame. Jerrold was an active Booster at Schulte High School especially at Friday football games serving hotdogs with his good friend Dr. King. He loved camping, traveling and fishing and was a BIG I.U. fan.

A private funeral service will take place at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with Father Dan Bedel officiating. Private burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.
