Obituary for Mary Ann Bisch

Mary Ann Bisch, 95, formerly of Terre Haute, died at 8:08 a.m. on Monday, May 4, 2020, at The Anderson Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. Mary Ann was born on February 5, 1925, in Terre Haute, the daughter of Frank John Terhorst and Delia Byrne Terhorst. She was a member of the 1942 graduating class of Laboratory School in Terre Haute, Indiana. She was the senior class secretary, a member of the writing and publishing group of the school paper, The Test Tube, and a member of the Girls’ Athletic Association. She was a 1946 graduate of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in education. She also obtained a Master’s Degree in education from Indiana State University.

She worked as a teacher in the Vigo County School Corporation for many years. Then after starting her family, she was a substitute teacher for the area, primarily teaching art. She was an accomplished artist who drew and painted pieces mainly for her personal use.

Mary Ann was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years Joseph Lyons Bisch in 2009; two brothers Paul Byrne Terhorst and Frank John Terhorst, Jr.; and one great-granddaughter, Ashleigh Hadder. Survivors include her children Stephen Joseph Bisch (Lori) of Killeen, Texas; and Ann Marie Jansen (Paul) of Cincinnati, Ohio. She is also survived by Joe’s children from his previous marriage, Mary Louise Bisch of Indianapolis, Indiana; and Catherine Marie Stephens (Jon) of East Peoria, Illinois. Four grandchildren survive and they are: Alexis Trapp Weddle, Nicole Mangian, Tyler Stephens, and Christina Hadder; as well as 10 great-grandchildren. Also, surviving is her brother-in-law, John James Bisch (Fran) of Lakeland, Florida.

A private family service will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2020, at Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana 47803. A Rosary Service will begin at 1 p.m. EST officiated by Father Martin Day, OFM Conv. Those who wish to join through live stream can access the service through the link Burial will immediately follow in Calvary Cemetery. The Mass of Christian Burial will not occur due to the COVID-19 restrictions that are in place. If friends should so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Carmelite Monastery, 59 Allendale Road, Terre Haute, Indiana 47802.
