Violet Kathryn “Kay” Crowder, 90, of Fishers and formerly of Terre Haute, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 04, 2025 at Allisonville Meadows in Fishers, Indiana. She was born on August 1, 1934, in Trenton, NJ to Leland Stanford and Violet Laura (Lanterman) Heath.
Kay is survived by a son, John Crowder of Indianapolis; daughter, Anne Gongwer of South Bend; grandchildren: Millicent Crowder, Truly Crowder, John Keegan Crowder, Caylor Gongwer, Larisa Crowder, Lynae Crowder, Lienna Crowder, Logan Crowder.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her two sisters: Marilyn Smith and June Long; her husband, Rex Crowder, Jr.; and a son, Mark Crowder.
Kay was a member of World Gospel Church for 52 years. Kay served as the Teaching Leader for Women’s Bible Study Fellowship in Terre Haute, Indiana for 18 years in the 1970 – 1980’s. She enjoyed teaching junior high Sunday School for many years at WGC. She was an avid reader, knitted hundreds of nylon scrubbies, volunteered at the Vigo County Historical Society Museum, and she was known for baking delicious apple pies.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 17 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. with a memorial service following at 12 p.m. at World Gospel Church, 900 Gardendale Road, Terre Haute, Indiana 47803. Kay will be laid to rest next to her husband in Lower Mound Cemetery, Perrysville, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the World Gospel Church Missions Fund.
