Suzanne Elizabeth Rafter

Suzanne “Sue” Elizabeth Rafter, 87, of Terre Haute, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Signature Healthcare. She was born on May 28, 1939, in Decatur, IL, to John and Clara (Schleicher) Rafter.

Sue is survived by her sister, Joan Whitehouse of Terre Haute; her brother, Eugene Rafter of Omaha, NE; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John Rafter, Gerald Rafter, Tom Rafter, and Robert Rafter; and a sister, Rosemary Rafter, SP.

Sue was a graduate of Schulte High School. She worked in customer service at Columbia Records her entire career, retiring after many years of dedicated service. Sue was a member of St. Joseph University Parish where she sang in the church choir and participated in the Ladies Altar Society. She loved to sing and was a member of the Sweet Adelines. Most of all, Sue enjoyed spending time with her family, especially with her nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at St. Joseph University Parish with a Rosary Service beginning at 12:40 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, at the church. Sue will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Sue may be made to St. Joseph University Parish, Hospice of the Wabash Valley, or Sisters of Providence. Mass cards for donations to the church for Mass in Sue’s memory will be available at the church.
