Susan Elaine Hoffman, 79, of Terre Haute, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care, surrounded by her children. She was born on July 30, 1946, in Indianapolis to Earl Higbie and Lucille Rosner Higbie.

Susan was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church. She graduated from Gerstmeyer High School and attended Indiana State University. Susan took great pride in teaching CCD for many years and helping prepare children for their First Communion.
She was known for her wicked sense of humor and loved making people laugh. Susan never met a stranger and truly enjoyed talking with people. She was also known for her random acts of kindness and for always wanting to help those in need.
Of all the roles Susan held throughout her life, being “Nana” was her favorite. Her grandchildren were the center of her world, and she treasured every moment spent with them.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, with Father Roger Vazhappilly officiating. Visitation will be held prior to Mass from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Private inurnment will take place at Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Wabash Valley or the Lustgarten Foundation for pancreatic cancer research. Susan’s family also encourages others to honor her memory by performing a random act of kindness for someone in need. Guests attending services are invited to wear purple, Susan’s favorite color, in celebration of her life.
Our hearts are broken, and she will be deeply missed every day.
