Shirley R. Maehling

Shirley R. Maehlinig, 98, of Terre Haute passed away Saturday, April 4, 2026 in the Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care. She was born October 27, 1927 in Terre Haute to John and Josephine Pollock.

Survivors include her children, Jan Wrin (Don), Robert Maehling (Kathy), and Stephen Maehling (Mary Pat); granddaughter, Amy Jarvis (Matt); great grandchildren, Tanner and Wrin; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Maehling in 1986; her parents; and her siblings.

Shirley was a retired teacher for the Vigo County School Corporation and taught for 30+ years at Davis Park Elementary. She was very passionate about education. She was a member of Maple Avenue United Methodist Church, the NEA, Vigo County Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, I.S.U. Alumni Association, and a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority at Indiana State University.

Private graveside funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 in Highland Lawn Cemetery with Reverend Steve Moore officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Wabash Valley or Indiana State University Athletics. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. There will be no visitation.
