Sharon Rose Berkley

Sharon Rose Berkley of Kuttawa, Kentucky, passed away peacefully in her home on Dec 15, 2025, after having dementia for several years.

Sharon was born on June 21, 1943, in Terre Haute, Indiana, and was the second of six children of Donna Jean Brown Waller and Kenneth Leo Waller. She was a graduate of Honey Creek High School in Terre Haute.

Her first job was at the Goody Bar, where she caught the eye of her future husband, Thomas Dale Berkley. He said, “She was the cutest little thing. I pointed her out to my friends and said I’m going to marry that girl.” She was 17 years old. They were married the next year on November 5, 1961. They had their first baby the following year and then three more children over the next few years. Tom and Sharon had a life filled with love and family. Tom’s career took them to several different cities. After Tom’s retirement, they settled in Kuttawa.

Sharon was selfless and had a wholehearted commitment to her immediate and extended family, always quick to help in whatever way she could. She was a pillar of strength in many ways and for many people. After her children started school, she went back to nursing school and became a licensed practical nurse, caring for elderly patients in their homes.

Sharon had many interests. She enjoyed traveling and visited most of the states and many European countries. She was an avid walker and walked/jogged the Indianapolis Mini Marathon and the Nashville Rock and Roll Half Marathon. She enjoyed playing euchre, doing puzzles and reading. Above all, she cherished her family and all babies and children.

She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years; her sister, Sarah Darlene Evitts; her four children, Tonya McGue (John), Tom Berkley (Amy), John Berkley (Debbie), Tim Berkley (Karla Alexander); nine grandchildren, Damon Berkley, Shannon McGue (Tyler Ung), Lauren Berkley, John Connor McGue (Shelley Bennett), Trey Berkley, Corey Berkley (Ariel), Kyle McGue (Emily), Preston Hertel (Hannah) and Paxton Laubscher; great grandchildren; Juniper, Caroline, Silas, Everett, Ari, Lilly, and Jack; and many extended family members.

The family would like to recognize and thank her wonderful caregivers, Joanna Orr and Brittany Robbins, and the caring staff at Hospice, who made her final years as comfortable and dignified as possible.

Visitation will be from 11 am to noon with a service at noon on Monday, Dec 22 at Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home in Terre Haute.
