Rosemary Moore

August 23, 1934 — March 2, 2026

Rosemary Moore

Rosemary Smith Moore was born on August 23, 1934, to Elmer Smith and Christina Alsum Smith in Terre Haute, IN. She transitioned this life on Monday, March 2, 2026, in the comforts of her home.

Rosemary attended Abraham Lincoln school in Terre Haute, until she was ten years of age. At this time, Rosemary and her siblings moved to Akron, Ohio where she completed her education. After high school, Rosemary returned to Terre Haute, where she met and married Paul Hatfield. The Lord blessed this union with ten children.

Rosemary loved to travel, she loved cooking and everyone loved her Molasses Pies. She loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Rosemary especially loves the Lord. She loved posting her morning prayers on Facebooks. She prayed for everyone and she loved to praise God. Rosemary recommitted her life to God on July 20, 1980, at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor James Barksdale. She enjoyed working with the Missionary Board. During a Missionary Board Anniversary Program she was asked to host the program, she immediately said “I can’t do that, get out in front of people like that!” But when she was told there was no one else to do it, she stepped up to the plate. Once the program ended, she was so excited that she did it, she was proud.

Rosemary was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Moore; one daughter, Rosetta Hatfield Hall; one son, Rod Hatfield; both parents, Elmer Smith and Christina Alsum Wise; her siblings, Elmer Smith II, Edward Smith, Estella Smith; her step-daughter, Noni Moore; and step-son, Marcus Chumney; special son-in-law, Franklin Jones; several grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Rosemary leaves to cherish her fond memories one son, Paul Hatfield (Fran); seven daughters, Marvel Edinburgh (Joseph), Marsone Gilmore (Randy), Towana Hatfield (Larry), Lorie Garrett (Michael), Tanya McLaurin (Kieth), Thresa Jones, and Leah Turner (Lamont); step-son, Derrick Chumney, whom she loves as her very own son; twenty-three grandchildren; sixty-nine great-grandchildren; and eight-five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her dearly.
