Ronald D. Thompson, Sr., 86, of Riley, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at the Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care. He was born on December 12, 1939, in Terre Haute, to Roy and Marian (Stieglebauer) Thompson.
Ronald is survived by his wife, Donna J. Thompson of Riley; children, Ron Thompson, Jr. (Lorre) of Terre Haute, Susan Loudermilk (Evan) of Universal, Melissa Carson (Ray) of Mooresville, and Bonnie Fortune (Rodger) of Brewerton, NY; siblings, Sylvia Jurgonski of Terre Haute, Delight Walters (Tom) of Terre Haute, Heather Kuckewich of Terre Haute, Mary Thompson of Terre Haute, Roy Thompson (Yoko) of Fishers, George Thompson (Billie) of Terre Haute, and Donald Thompson (Leesa) of Poland; grandchildren: April Anderson, Crystal Thompson (Matt Orman), Lane Hall (Mackenzie), Clint Carson (Rachel), Jake Fortune (Ashley), and Brooke Fortune; great-grandchildren: Dylan, Marley, Carter, Cheyenne, Levi, and Kayce; sisters-in-law, Donna Thompson of Riley, Delores Cromwell of Paducah, KY, Denise Bauer (Richard) of South Fulton, TN, Debbi Griffey of Metropolis, IL, and Darlene DeJarnett (Roy) of Paducah; brother-in-law, James Ebbert (Debbie) of Herrin, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Carole Lawson, Steve Thompson, and Paul Thompson (Rosalyn).
Ron proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for twenty years, completing two tours in Vietnam. He retired with the rank of Master Sergeant. He also worked for many years at Pinkerton Security. Ron was a member of Lawton-Byrum VFW Post 972 and the United States Marine Corps Association. He was an active participant in the VFW Honor Guard, ensuring that military veterans received funeral honors conducted with dignity and pride. In his spare time, Ron enjoyed riding his four-wheeler, deep sea fishing, snorkeling, target shooting, and competitive skeet shooting.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home. A funeral ceremony will take place at 1:00 pm, on Saturday, at the funeral home, with Pastor Brett Wilson officiating. Ron will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery with military honors provided by VFW Post 972. Donations may be made to the Lighthouse Mission.
