Reva Maxine McGuire

Reva Maxine McGuire, 86, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away on September 7, 2026, with her loving family by her side. She left this world surrounded by the same love she so freely gave to her family throughout her entire life. While our hearts are broken to say goodbye, we find peace in knowing that she is now reunited with her loving husband, George “Willie” McGuire, whom she had deeply missed. After 65 loving years of marriage and a lifetime of memories together, they are finally side by side once again.

Reva was born on December 13, 1939, in Coshocton, Ohio to the late Sumner and Mary Leo Slaughter. Throughout her 86 years, she wore many titles—daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend; but family was always at the very center of her life.

Reva married the love of her life, George “Willie” McGuire, and together they shared 65 loving years of marriage. Their life together was one built on love, hard work, family, and countless memories. Together, they raised five children: Gail (John) Ayre, Dennie (Teresa) McGuire, Tom (Terri) McGuire, Connie (Chuck) Strickland, and Cindy Standeford. She is survived by one brother Wayne (Beth) Slaughter of Warsaw, OH, and sister-in-law Dottie Gephart of Coschocton, OH

Her grandchildren were truly her entire world. She loved each of them deeply and took tremendous pride in watching them grow and build families of their own. Her grandchildren include Ashley (Andrew) Strange, Ryan (Kacey) McGuire, Courtney (Bin) Mayfield, Chelsea (Brett) Crews, Andrew (Sindy) Fox, Christina (Jacob) Maxwell, Billy Thompson, Tommy (Braelyn) McGuire, Cole (Sarah) Rosselli, & Danielle (Tim) Anderson.

One of Reva’s greatest blessings was becoming a great-grandmother. Her great-grandchildren brought a special kind of joy and light into her life: Madi, Brantley, & Rylynn Strange, Ellie Hollingsworth, Laila & Boden McGuire, Copeland & Dansby Crews, Reed & Kathryn Mayfield, George Fox, Lottie Rosselli, Ripken, Louis, & Mina Anderson, and the family’s newest blessing, Jettsyn McGuire, expected soon.

She is preceded in death by her siblings Richard, George, Robert, Ralph, Donny, Earl, Floyd, Joe, James Lee Slaughter, Mary Tabor, and Louis Courtright.

Reva lived her life taking care of the people she loved, and there was nowhere she would rather have been than surrounded by her family. She gave endlessly of herself; not because she had to, but because loving and caring for others was simply who she was. If someone needed something, Reva was there.

She was stubborn, fiercely independent, hardworking, and determined, but underneath it all was one of the biggest and most generous hearts anyone could ever know. There wasn’t much Reva couldn’t do; And if she didn’t know how to do something, she certainly wasn’t going to let that stop her…she would figure it out herself.

Her family and friends will forever remember the love that came from her kitchen. Reva was known for her beautiful cakes, wonderful cooking and baking, and especially her famous strawberry jelly. Food was another way she showed her love, and so many family memories were made gathered around something she had prepared with her own hands.

She also found happiness in life’s simple, beautiful moments. She loved her flowers, gardening, working in the yard, and looking out over the pond from her kitchen window while drinking her coffee and watching the animals. Those quiet moments were part of the home and life she loved so dearly.

Reva’s greatest legacy, however, cannot be measured by the things she made, grew, baked, or accomplished. Her greatest legacy is her family.

It lives in the children she raised, the grandchildren she helped guide, the great-grandchildren she adored, and every person fortunate enough to have been loved by her. Her strength, stubborn determination, giving heart, recipes, traditions, stories, and unconditional love will continue to be carried through generations.

Although saying goodbye leaves an emptiness that words cannot fill, there is comfort in knowing that a life as full of love as Reva’s never truly ends. Her light will continue to shine through every life she touched and every memory she left behind.

And while those left behind will miss her more than words could ever express, there is something beautiful in imagining Reva and Willie together again, no more missing one another, no more separation, just the love they shared for a lifetime continuing on.

She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

Rest peacefully, Reva. Your work here is done. The family you spent a lifetime loving will carry you in their hearts until you are together again. ❤️

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home. A funeral ceremony will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at the funeral home with Pastor Mike Bennett officiating. Reva will be laid to rest next to her husband in Highland Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks for all donations to please be sent to Hospice of the Wabash Valley.
