Paul Thomas Edgerton

Paul Thomas Edgerton passed away December 2, 2025, at Westminster Village. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nancy Edmondson Edgerton. Paul was born June 19,1938, in South Bend, Indiana, to Albert William and Eva Eagle Edgerton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Leslie Edgerton and Melvin Edgerton and his sister, Ruth McDonald. He is survived by his brothers William (Kim) Edgerton and Richard Edgerton, as well as three children, Sarah Lynn Edgerton, Steven Paul (Cynthia) Edgerton and Elizabeth Ruth (Robert K. Elder) Edgerton, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Paul grew up in South Bend, in a neighborhood full of friends, where he and his brothers spent their free time playing sports, especially baseball. He graduated from South Bend Adams High School in 1956. That fall, he enrolled at Indiana State University where he earned a BS and later a Master’s Degree. He completed graduate classes for a Ph.D. at Florida State University in 1975.

As an ISU student, Paul joined the staff of the Men’s Residence Halls, played varsity baseball for three seasons and was active in student government and campus life. After graduation, he returned to South Bend Adams High School, to teach science and English. Two years later, he was recruited by ISU to return to the university to take on the role of Residence Hall Director. Over the nearly 40 years he worked at ISU, he rose through the university’s administrative ranks to Vice President of Student Affairs. Over the years, he served five university presidents. He was lauded for his accomplishments at ISU, especially for his role in developing the Hulman Memorial Student Union and hiring the university’s first female athletic director. He retired from ISU in 2000.

He enjoyed being the American Dad to exchange students from eight countries, which led to trips to Europe, South America and Australia to visit the students and their families. He loved playing golf and five decades of yearly beach vacations in Florida and North Carolina with family and friends.

The family is planning a Celebration of Life on Sunday, December 14 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Westminster Village Community Center.
