Patricia & Robert Newby

Patricia A. Newby, 93, of Terre Haute passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2026 in the Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care. She was born November 5, 1932 in Terre Haute to Claude E. Ripple and Helen Cullen Ripple.

Robert E. Newby, 95, of Terre Haute passed away Thursday, April 16, 2026 in Union Hospital. He was born May 2, 1930 in Switz City, IN to Ralph Rex Newby and Ethel Miller Newby Timmons.

Survivors include their daughter Katherine Newby (James A. Miller); and nieces and nephews, Keith, Cheryl, Bonnie, Terri, Larry, MaryAnn, and Barbara Lynn. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Pat was a retired teacher from Davis Park Elementary School. She was very involved in school activities and her daughter’s life. Pat was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority where she won the Marge Newlin Award, and a board member of A.L.L. She was a kind and caring Girl Scout leader and was a wonderful example for giving service to others. She was an avid reader.

Bob was a Rose-Hulman graduate and member of ATO fraternity. He was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and the Masonic Lodge. Bob retired from Indiana State University as Director of buildings and grounds. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War where he received a Bronze Star. Bob enjoyed golf and bowling.

They loved to horse camp with Kathy and Jim, traveling, playing cards, and dancing.

Private Graveside funeral services will be conducted in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.
