Katherine Tuttle Bridwell, 82, of Terre Haute, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at her home, surrounded by family. She was born on April 19, 1943, in Gallatin, Tennesee, to William and Mattie (Petty) Tuttle. She married Amos Joseph Bridwell on August 6, 1959.
Katherine is survived by her husband of 66 years, Joe Bridwell of Terre Haute; son, Mark Bridwell of Terre Haute; daughters, Sandy Pilipovich (Steve) of Terre Haute and Katherine Bridwell of Terre Haute; daughter-in-law, Amy Bridwell of Terre Haute; grandchildren: Christopher Bridwell, Aaron Bridwell (Tara Wilkinson), Amanda Grayless (Clint), Zachary Bridwell (Dia), Nicholas Pilipovich (Anne Elise), Joshua Bridwell (Taylor), and Matthew Pilipovich; fifteen great-grandchildren: Clara and Colette Pilipovich; Pacey Bridwell; Avery Davis, Ransom, and Amelia Grayless; Berkeley, Beckett, Bristol, and Barrett “Bear” Bridwell; Ayden, Leah, and Logan Bridwell; and Mkynzie and Mallory Bridwell; a sister, Charlotte Douglas (Bob); and last, but not least, her protector and canine companion, Maggie Mae.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Dwayne Joseph Bridwell; sisters, Mary Green, Elizabeth Cliburn, and Doris D’Angelo; Joe’s parents, Amos and Maude Bridwell; a sister-in-law, Betty Rose Bridwell; her beloved Shih Tzu, Max; and cat, Daisy Mae.
Katherine was a devoted wife, loving mother, and doting grandmother. The rock of her family, she made sure to take care of everyone and that they knew how she felt. Katherine and Joe spent a wonderful 66 years together full of family, friends, travelling, and adventures. She loved her Florida home and spent 16 years as a snowbird in Ft. Myers Beach and the Sanibel Causeway. Katherine loved to entertain friends and family alike when they visited her in Florida. In Ft. Myers, she was a member of the Moose Club, VFW Auxiliary, and American Legion Auxiliary. In Terre Haute, Katherine was a member of the Elks, Sycamore Club, Marine Corps League Auxiliary, and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was a member of Pentecostal House of Prayer. She loved warm weather because she could work in her garden and plant flowers. Katherine also had an eye for design and was an excellent home decorator, making her homes in Terre Haute and Florida warm and welcoming to all.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 27 at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home. A Funeral Ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, at the funeral home with Pastor Danny McAdams officiating. Katherine will be laid to rest in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
