It is with extreme sadness we announce the passing of Julie Perry Heck, a devoted wife, mother, administrator, philanthropist and a cherished member and friend of the Terre Haute community. Julie passed away after a 3 ½ year battle with breast cancer.
Julie was born to Eston L. Perry and the late Alice A. Perry, who preceded her in death. Both instilled in her the values of education, community service, with true compassion and love for mankind. In her early years, she enjoyed spending time with her grandparents John and Alice Schmidt and Willie Mae Perry in Wartburg, TN. She was married 35 years to Steven B. Heck, where she built a life filled with love and family. She was a proud and loving mother to Wesley S. Heck (Alexandra) and Annie M. Heck and they were the center of her world. Her love also extended to her new grandson Hendrix L. Heck.
She is survived by her brother Jeffrey J. Perry (Jennifer) and sister Jennifer Perry Norris (Travis). She enjoyed working with Jeff at the Corporations and relied on his expertise in operations and management skills. In her sister, Jennifer, she had an unwavering love that was so recognizable to all. The 18-year difference in age allowed Julie to be a second mother to Jennifer (Pooh) attending all the annual Heck family trips and vacation. Jennifer is truly loved by Wes and Annie and was a vital part in their upbringing. Furthermore, Julie took great pride in being the “BEST” aunt to all nieces and nephews and loved them unconditionally.
Julie graduated from Terre Haute North High School before pursuing a bachelor of science degree at Indiana State University where she joined the Chi Omega Sorority. The friendships developed within the Chi Omega Sisterhood left a livelong impact on her life. Her passion for family led her to a lifelong career starting with her grandfather, John G. Schmidt, at Indiana State Bank then an extremely rewarding 40 year career with her father, Eston, at the Oakley Corporation, Vista Leasing, and 124 Madison Corporation. She looked forward to their morning coffee sessions and truly loved working for the family business. She was a dedicated member of the Hollie and Anna Oakley Foundation Board of Directors serving for 44 years and was the President of the Board.
Julie’s generosity and dedication to philanthropy were evident in her service to Indiana State Foundation Board, Hospice of Terre Haute and her membership in several organizations, Tri Kappa, Chi Omega, PEO, Mouse House etc. She was a proud member of the Bonita Bay County Club in Florida and the Unity Church of Bonita Springs.
Julie was a lifelong learner and later in life earned a degree in Energy Medicine on the campus of Arizona State University. Her Holistic beliefs led to a life filled with joy while concentrating on her mind, body and spirit. She was an avid reader of spiritual authors and enjoyed her daily prayer sessions.
But her true asset was her unwavering love with family, friends and community. Her inspiring personality, personal charm and kind heart will be severely missed by all fortunate to know her.
A celebration of Julie’s life will be held on Sunday, December 7th at the Terre Haute Convention Center. The celebration will start at 3:00 p.m. All friends and relatives are invited to attend.
