Jefferson Allen Spencer

Jefferson Allen Spencer, 80, passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease while surrounded by family on November 6, 2025. Jeff was born on October 5, 1945, in Salem, Illinois to Lena Mae (Hedges) Spencer and John Spencer. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, James Spencer, and son, Patrick Singhurse.

Jeff is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Catherine (Kate) Haley Spencer, children Tracie Floyd (Jerry), Carrie Maschino (Craig), and Jennifer Johnson (John), Michael Singhurse (Ursula), and Hannah Singhurse. He is also survived by grandchildren Jacob (Aubrey), Grace (Hunter Govert), and Emilie Floyd; Spencer, Caroline, and Meredith Maschino; and Zofia, Bernadette, Nathanael, and Hilde Singhurse; and great-grandson, Kohen Floyd. Also surviving are two brothers Ralph Spencer (Minnie) and Lonnie Clymer (Candi), best friend Wayne Baysinger, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

While pursuing his undergraduate degree in accounting at Southern Illinois University, Jeff was drafted into the Army and sent to Vietnam where he was a radio operator serving with the tank division. After completing his education with an MBA from Northern Illinois University, Jeff worked as a CPA and financial advisor in the Brazil, Rockville, and Terre Haute area for over 50 years. Jeff was also a member of the Rotary Club of Brazil for many years. One of his proudest accomplishments was helping to start the Parke County Community Foundation and serving on the board for many years.

Jeff was also very proud to have become a member of the Catholic Church in 2009. Prior to complications from his illness, he was an active member of his church. When Jeff wasn’t working, he loved spending time with family, his horses, and his bulldozer. Those who knew him best will remember Jeff’s kindness, generosity, and how he was always willing to help anyone in need. His favorite motto first said by Theodore Roosevelt was, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”

The family would like to thank Missy Bailey and the rest of the team at Harrison’s Crossing Healthcare Campus for all the care and kindness given to Jeff and his family, as well as his team at Hospice of the Wabash Valley.
