George W. Patterson, Jr.

George W. Patterson Jr. was born on March 19, 1964 in Riverside, California to George and Billie Patterson. His family, after moving throughout the country due to his father’s career in the Air Force, eventually settled in Terre Haute, Indiana. There he graduated from Terre Haute North High School in 1982. He then went on to play football at Indiana State University where he graduated in 1987.

While attending ISU he met the love of his life, Janine, who he married on June 16th, 1990. Together they had four children and built a beautiful life as a family. George was the epitome of a family man and put everything he had into making his wife and children’s (and eventually, grandson’s) lives magical. He proudly showed the love he held for his family and is still the ultimate role model for all of his children. He had a passion for sports, spending 14 years as a football and track coach at Rose Hulman Inst., and amassed a vast collection of sports cards.

George was diagnosed with mantle cell lymphoma in 2019. Throughout his 6-year battle, he continued to allow his personality to shine through, joking with the doctors and nurses and putting a smile on everyone’s face.

George is survived by his wife, Janine; his children, their significant others and his grandson, Jeremy & Cassie Patterson, Alecia & Blake Smithson and their son Archer, and Davis Patterson & Caitlin Cox. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Linda and his daughter Shauna Patterson.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00pm Saturday, June 7th, 2025 at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with Pastor Paul Cooper officiating. Visitation will be prior to services from 11:00am until 2:00pm on Saturday. Private burial will be in Highland Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Complete Life & M.O.V.E.
