Fred P. Rubey

Fred P. Rubey, 90, of Terre Haute passed away Saturday, July 18, 2026 in Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care. He was born October 2, 1935 in Terre Haute to Ambrose H. Rubey and Miriam Combs Rubey.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Nancy House Rubey; children, Charles Rubey (Sally), Catherine Rubey, Andrew Rubey, and Jennifer Skelton (Dennis); eight grandchildren, Lucas (Megan), Connor, Travis (Kaitlyn), Ellie, and Kiley Rubey, Hannah Speidel (Matt), and Brendan Haney (Katherine), and Kaitlyn Maxwell (Adam); great-grandchildren, Henry Rubey, Ryan Jane Rubey, Teddy Rubey, Lucille Rubey Maxwell; and eight nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his brother, Charles N. Rubey and brother-in-law, John M. House (Barbara). He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Ann R. Rubey.

A graduate of Peoria High School in 1953 and Louisiana Polytechnic Institute in 1957 with a BS in Electrical Engineering and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha, he also attended Purdue University and Indiana University for graduate studies. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi.

He worked at Commercial Solvents Corp. as an electrical engineer, Eastern Express as Board Member and Secretary, S-Tek Computer Services as President, Terre Haute First National Bank as Sr. VP and Trust Officer, and was Managing Member of First Investment Advisors, LLC.

His community involvement included Chairman of Vigo County March of Dimes Board, President of Junior Achievement, Union Hospital Board of Directors, Chairman of Union Hospital Foundation Board, Jaycees, President of Terre Haute Area Chamber of Commerce, President of Western Indiana Private Industry Council, Treasurer of Hamilton Center, Treasurer of Ivy Tech Foundation, Workforce Investment Board, Session Member of Central Presbyterian Church, Mended Hearts Visitor, Rose-Hulman Board of Associates, founding member of ESPFL, founding member of JOLMAC, Sunflower Club, original board member of the Wabash Valley Community Foundation, member of SCORE, President of YMCA Board of Directors, United Way Campaign Chairman in 1982, Chapman S. Root Award in 2009 and Sagamore of the Wabash in 2000.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M., Saturday, July 25, 2026 in Central Presbyterian Church with Reverend Doctor Mark Miller officiating. Visitation will be prior to services from 9:30 – 11:30 A.M. on Saturday at the church. Private burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.
