Eldon Lee Sloniker, 89, of Terre Haute, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 30, 2026 at his daughter's home. He was born on February 1, 1937, in Terre Haute, to Phillip and Eva Marie (McClure) Sloniker.
Eldon is survived by his daughter, Lisa Helton (Michael) of Terre Haute; sister, Janice Tingley of Terre Haute; son-in-law, Mike Stoehr of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Stephanie Stoehr of Terre Haute; Blake and Angela Stoehr of Houston, Texas; and Christopher and Jennifer Stoehr of Conroe, Texas; nine great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Sue Sloniker; daughters, Debbie Sloniker and Rebecca Stoehr; and siblings, Donald Sloniker, Thelma Anderson, Betty Thompson, Phyllis Sloniker, and Joann Henry.
Eldon was a union meat cutter for over forty years, working at A&P, the Apple House, and Kroger. He loved to grocery shop and make sure that family and friends alike had plenty of food to eat. Eldon had a heart of gold and wanted to make sure that people were fed and cared for. He loved to grow vegetables every year in his large garden. He canned his harvest alongside his family. He enjoyed visiting the Amish communities and going to the auction barn. Eldon was a treasure trove of memories and could spend hours reminiscing about the good days. A hard worker, he instilled that spirit in his family. He was a Dad, not just to his three daughters, but also to all of their friends. Eldon enjoyed the time he spent on vacations to Florida with family and in-laws. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and Zorah Shrine. Eldon’s memory will live on through the stories he shared and the love he gave so freely to those who crossed his path.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm on Friday, April 3, 2026 at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home. A funeral ceremony will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, at the funeral home. Eldon will be laid to rest in Roselawn Memorial Park.
