Douglas A. Grim

Douglas A. Grim, 85, was welcomed with joy into his Heavenly home February 28, 2026.

Doug was the heart and foundation of his family, a man whose life was defined by love, faith, and selfless devotion. As a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he gave of himself completely, always placing his family before his own needs. With a true servant’s heart, Doug devoted his life first and foremost to those he loved.

Together, he and his beloved wife of 65 years, Patti, built a beautiful life and raised devoted children, creating cherished memories filled with joy and faith. Doug’s guidance, steady example, and unwavering encouragement shaped not only his children, but also his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The people they are today stand as a testament to his influence, wisdom, and love.

Doug was admired and respected by all who knew him. A sincere, kind, and caring friend, he touched countless lives — often without even realizing it. Whether family, friend, or stranger, those who crossed his path felt his warmth and generosity.

His love, values, and gentle strength will live on in the hearts of his family and in the legacy he leaves behind. Though he will be deeply missed, his presence remains in the lives he shaped and the family he so faithfully cherished.

Doug’s professional life was defined by leadership, dedication, and lasting impact. A native of Springfield, Ohio, Doug attended Campion Jesuit High School in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin and later St. Louis University. In 1965, he co-founded Sycamore Insurance Agency, Inc., where he played a key role in the company’s growth, serving as Secretary/Treasurer, Old National Insurance Regional President, and most recently as an Account Executive with Epic Brokers — continuing to work with passion at age 85.

Doug’s achievements extended far beyond his profession. He received numerous community honors, recognizing a lifetime of leadership and service. Doug dedicated countless hours to community organizations, mentored young athletes, and helped coach Terre Haute North High School football, where he was admired for teaching teamwork, character, and sportsmanship. His service included leadership roles with the YMCA of the Wabash Valley, Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce, Hamilton Center Foundation, and many other civic organizations. Through his vision, mentorship, and generosity, Doug helped develop leaders and strengthen the community he loved.

Known affectionately as “Gramps,” Doug considered his greatest accomplishment to be his family. He and his high school sweetheart, Patti, have been blessed with five children, twenty grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren — a legacy that brought him immense pride and joy.

Doug is survived by his loving wife, Patti, and his children, Fred Grim, Scooter Grim (Heidi), Cori Carney (Pat), Renee Bishop (Greg), Sallee Collett (John), and Jennifer Grim. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Katie Carney, Dougie Collett (Anna), Meghan Smith (Thomas), Carson Bishop (Abbagail), Cameron Grim (Josha), Bailey Bishop (Zach Guthrie), Austin Bishop

(Madison), Trey Grim (Kristen), Kelli Carney, Spencer Carden (Mark), T.J. Collett (Macy), Logan Grim (Emma), Emery Grim (Will Hart), Drew Bishop (Sammi Hayward), Cole Grim, Abby Grim, Reagan Grim, Carter Grim, Connor Bishop, and his thirteen great-grandchildren.

Doug is also survived by his brother Pete Hackett (Sandy), his sisters, Patsy Taylor, Carrie Merritt and Mollie Beatty (Bill), and his brother-in-law, Dick Stahl.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Florence Grim, his stepmother Kay Hackett Grim, his brothers, Freddy and Toby Grim (Janet), his sisters Patti Singer (Bob), Jackie DelMedico (Vince), Janie Roth (Ray) and Butchy Stahl, and brothers-in-law, Tom Taylor and Tom Merritt, and his precious granddaughter, Jackie Collett

Sincere gratitude goes to Dr. Jaffri, Dr. Gowda, Dr. Jameria, and many special nurses that cared for Doug the past several weeks at Union Hospital and Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care. We are eternally grateful for your genuine and respectful care.
