Col. William F. Hanna

William F. Hanna, 87, retired US Army Colonel, died at his home with his family by his side. He was defined by his sharp intellect, quick wit, ever-present sense of humor, unwavering work ethic, and a willingness to help others. Bill was the son of Joseph and Melbourne Hanna of Terre Haute, IN. After graduating from Wiley High School in 1957, he attended ISU then began his military career with the US Army. He retired in 1995, after 35 years of distinguished service. He took great pride in the journey that carried him from Private in the Army National Guard to Colonel in the United States Army, ultimately serving at the Pentagon.

Bill claimed his most stellar achievement was winning the heart of Peggy Purcell. They married on Dec. 22, 1979, and they loved and laughed together for 47 years.

After retiring to Terre Haute, he remained dedicated to serving others through establishing Veterans’ Buying Service, Inc., and partnering in Creative Benefit Designs,LLC.

He was a faithful member of Recharge Church where, from his front row seat, he truly loved Pastor Arnick’s sermons and sense of humor.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy; sister Marilyn Brackney (Larry), brother Phil Hanna (Nan), children Kim Baer, Kevin Kerns (Divanea), and Kathy Cottom (Brian); grandchildren Cam Cottom (Jessika), Clay Cottom, Kurt Baer (Kassity), Scott Baer (Sydni), Michael Baer, Jillian Hayn (Jake), and Dylan Kerns; great-grandchildren Cincere, Jaliyah, Jae’Trell, Jae’Vion, Olivia, Sophia, Dawson, and Brantley; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
