Christina Sue Fagg Hughes went to be with Jesus peacefully at home on May 20th, surrounded by family. She was the only daughter of Paul and Mary Alice Fagg. Christina came into this world on March 10, 1952. She grew up in Riley, Indiana, at the family-owned grocery store, J & F Market.
She began her education at Riley Elementary, continued at Glen Jr. High, and finished up at Gerstmeyer Tech. It was there she met her husband, Gregory Hughes. They were married on December 31, 1968, and joyfully celebrated each New Year’s Eve as another year of marriage. They had recently marked 56 years together this past December.
Her husband preceded her in death on March 4, 2025. Also waiting for her in Heaven are her parents, Paul and Mary Alice Fagg; her beloved “Auntie,” Eula Fagg; her mother-in-law, Norma Lloyd; and many cherished loved ones.
Christina is survived by her son, Ryan Hughes, and his wife, Laura; her daughter, Katrina Jarvis, and her husband, Denny; and five grandchildren: Jackson Jarvis and his wife, Kaitlin; Kaylin Jarvis Mimms and her husband, Sam; Kyla Jarvis Brown and her husband, CJ; Hayden Hughes; and Griffin Hughes. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren Gavin Walden, Kinlynn Jarvis, Jarvis Charles Brown, and baby girl Mimms, who is expected in June. Christina is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Margaret Butterfield, Jennifer Harbor, and Carla Welke, along with a host of cousins and dear friends.
Chris spent many years working at her family’s store. Later, she worked as a teaching assistant at Riley Elementary while her children were young. One of her greatest passions was catering events with her closest friends. She was known as one of the best cooks around, and no one ever turned down a meal prepared by Chris Hughes.
She lovingly cared for her grandchildren and their friends, who all affectionately called her “Grandma Chris.” There was no one she loved more than her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hughes was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, where she used her gifts and servant’s heart for as long as her health allowed. Chris was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia about 13 years ago, and she faced those challenges with her husband faithfully by her side. More recently, she was diagnosed with frontotemporal lobe dementia, which further impacted her health.
After losing her one true love, Greg, her heart turned Heavenward. Now, they are reunited with Jesus. Can you imagine the joy?
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. A funeral ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. on Friday, at the church. Chris will be laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church in her memory.
