Charles Walter Ennis, aged 65, of Terre Haute, Indiana, entered into eternal rest on January 23, 2024. Born on September 17, 1958, in Terre Haute, Charles, affectionately known as Chuck by those close to him, lived a life marked by steadfast dedication to his family and his profession. Chuck's formative years were spent within the halls of Terre Haute South High School before he advanced to Purdue University, where he furthered his education. Chuck began his career doing various consultant projects in Denver, Colorado and Portland, Oregon immediately following graduation. He served as a City Counsel member from 1995-1999. Chuck also dedicated some of his time to educating aspiring engineers at Rose Hulman Institute of Technology and Indiana State University where he served as an adjunct professor. His career as a Civil Engineer spanned 16 fruitful years with the City of Terre Haute, where his tenacity and discipline shone through his work. Beyond his professional achievements, Chuck was a pillar of strength and selflessness within his family. His unwavering loyalty to friends, colleagues, and above all, his family, defined his character. Chuck's ability to put others' needs before his own exemplified the depth of his caring spirit. He is lovingly remembered by his father, William Ennis and step-mother, Marie (Lenges) Ennis; along with his siblings, Tom (Lessa) Ennis and Seamus (Tia) Ennis; He is survived by his former wife, Karen (Bopp) Fainot and their children, Nathan (Haley) Ennis, Julia (Ryan) Taylor, and Kayla (Jacob) Candler; and his adored granddaughter, Kennedy Rae Taylor. Chuck was predeceased by his mother, Carol Ann Askue. Chuck's passions extended into the great outdoors, where he found joy in hands-on projects, such as construction, arboriculture, and the simple pleasures of mushroom hunting and pawpaw picking. A faithful member of the Memorial United Methodist Church, Chuck embraced his spiritual life with the same fervor as he did every aspect of his existence. The family extends their gratitude to Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home for their compassionate support during this time. A service to honor the life and legacy of Charles Walter Ennis will be held with visitation from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2024 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street followed by a service for family and close friends. We bid farewell to a man of honor and integrity. His memory will be treasured in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
