Anthony Ray Cornelius, fondly known as “Bones” to many, 86, of Terre Haute, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at The Commons of Honey Creek. He was born on August 7, 1939, in Crofton, KY, to Carl Raymond and Bertha Ella Cornelius.

Anthony is survived by his children: Anthony “Tony” Cornelius II (Teresa) of Terre Haute and Sherri Riegle (Dan) of Frankfort; grandchildren: Chad Cornelius (Mindy), Tiffany Ferree, Cole Riegle (Becca), Ella Riegle, Cassondra Meier (Zach), Nic Riegle, and Brice Riegle; great-grandchildren: Ford, Avery, Bailey, Keidyn, Brennan, and Ivy; and six bonus great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 45 years, Barbara Cornelius.

Anthony was a graduate of Crofton High School He proudly served 4 years in the United States Navy and reenlisted in the United States Air Force, serving another 4 years. Anthony worked as an electrician and chief electrician for Peabody Coal in Illinois and Indiana until his retirement. He was a long-time member and Past Commander of the Sullivan American Legion Post 139. He was also a Mason. Anthony loved to spend time with his wife before her passing. He enjoyed fishing, riding his motorcycle, and gambling at the casino.

Anthony’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to caregivers Phyllis Bonham and Kay Hostetter for their kind and compassionate care during Anthony’s twilight years.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home with military honors taking place at 3:00 p.m. Anthony will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, next to his wife, in a private graveside ceremony at a later date.
