It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alice A. Perry, a devoted wife, mother, pharmacist, philanthropist and cherished member of the Terre Haute community. Alice passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, kindness, and service to others.
Alice was born to Alice Oakley Schmidt and John G. Schmidt who instilled in her the values of education, service, and compassion. She was married to Eston L. Perry, with whom she built a life filled with love and family. She was a proud and loving mother to Julie Anne Heck (Steven), Jeffrey John Perry (Jennifer), and Jennifer Lee Norris (Travis), who were the center of her world. Her love extended to her seven grandchildren: Wesley Heck, Annie Heck, Lillian Perry, Max Perry, Bryce Norris, Layla Norris, and Kyrie Norris, as well as her great-grandchild, Hendrix Heck.
A lifelong learner, Alice graduated from Wiley High School before pursuing higher education at Purdue University School where she joined the Delta Gamma Sorority and earned her Pharmacy Degree. Her passion for helping others led her to a long and successful career as a pharmacist, serving the community at Oakley Drug Store, Meadows Pharmacy, Hooks Drug Stores, Phar-Mor, and Kroger Grocery. Her commitment to Terre Haute extended beyond her profession, as she also served as the President of The Hollie and Anna Oakley Foundation.
Alice’s generosity and dedication to philanthropy were evident in her service on the Union Hospital Foundation Board and in her memberships in several organizations, including Tri Kappa Sorority, PEO, and the Indiana Pharmaceutical Association. She was also a proud member of the Country Club of Terre Haute and the Golden Bear Club at Keene’s Pointe, Windermere, FL.
Alice was recognized for her lifelong dedication to service, philanthropy and education with an Honorary Doctor of Humanities from Indiana State University. Beyond her professional and philanthropic endeavors, she was an avid bridge player and enjoyed bowling, always cherishing time spent with friends.
Alice will be remembered for her unwavering commitment to family, community, and service. Her warmth, wisdom, and generosity touched the lives of many, and she leaves behind a lasting impact on those who were fortunate enough to know her. A celebration of Alice’s life will be held at a later date.
