Albert Orlandini

Albert Orlandini, affectionately known as Nene to many, 92, of Terre Haute, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 22, 2025, at his home with family by his side. He was born on November 1, 1932, in Royalton, IL to Pete and Stella (Gualtierri) Orlandini. He married Betty Orlandini on October 16, 1954.

Albert is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Gurchiek (Kevin) of Terre Haute; Bob Orlandini (Susan Duncan) of Effingham, IL; grandchildren, Jacob Orlandini and Tina Hannigan (Nicholas); and great-grandchildren, Kelsi Palmquist (Larry), Zoi Jo-Jean Palmquist (Jakob), and Robert Joseph “R.J.” Hannigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 42 years, Betty Jean Orlandini; a granddaughter, Amanda Jo Gurchiek; four sisters; two brothers; and his companion, Margaret McIntosh whose family treated him like their own.

Albert was a 1950 graduate of Royalton High School where he lettered in baseball, basketball, and track. He proudly served in the United States Navy in the Korean War. He then served in the United States Army before returning to Indiana to begin his career as a coal miner. He retired from Ziegler Coal Mine as a mine safety inspector at the Murdock Coal Mine near Tuscola, IL. He was the financial secretary for UMWA Local 8682 for many years.

Albert was an active life member of Riley American Legion Post 328 where he was a volunteer and driving force behind many post events. He was a Friday night regular for Poker and always served as the banker for the games. He was also a life member of Lawton Byrum VFW Post 972. Albert was a long-time member of St. Benedict Catholic Church where he regularly served as usher until his health prevented him from attending.

One of the nicest, sweetest men to grace the face of the Earth, Albert enjoyed spending his later years with family, especially his great-granddaughters who called him Pawpooh. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing. He liked to work and was always helping his daughter with home building projects. Albert leaves behind a legacy of love and care for others. He will be missed.
